As recently as last November, an estimated 18,000 gallons of ethanol spilled into the Upper Mississippi River after a train derailed near Alma, Wisconsin.
Two other rail accidents in 2015, one near Waupeton, Iowa, and the other near Galena, Illinois, also dumped chemicals into the Upper Mississippi. Then in January 850 gallons of vegetable oil spilled into the river from Brownsville, Minnesota.

In the west, at Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge, officials reported that 42,000 gallons of crude oil spilled from a train on June 4th. The oil may have seeped into the groundwater, making the long-term environmental repercussions unknown, and possibly toxic.

WHO IS KEEPING TRACK OF THESE SPILLS, AND THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF CHEMICALS ENTERING OUR WATERWAYS?
WHO IS DOCUMENTING THE LONGTERM EFFECTS ON THE ECOSYSTEM? AND NEARBY COMMUNITIES?
this project is ongoing.
